I am mainly a street driver, to and from work with this car, but do take this vehicle to the local tracks and drag it atleast once to twice a week. My stock clutch is about gone, atleast I have nightmares that it is going to give on me, so my question is this...

What vendors do you recommend for a clutch replacement that is mainly street, but is still a nice competition clutch?

I'm running the SPEC SS-trim and it's a very nice piece. Comes with a billet flywheel and the shell is anodized blue (not that you can see it...but you'll be surprised by the quality for the money).

Release is right at the top of pedal travel. It's about 50% more firm on pedal feel/pressure. Takes a little getting used to, but once it's seated (best way to do it is to get on it HARD...burnouts basically) it's a nice performance clutch. Here's a few pic's I took while my build was underway.

Good luck.

Wow! This is amazing stuff. I know next to nothing about the mechanical side of cars and this is the first clutch I've ever seen. It's exactly NOT what I thought it it would look like.

I don't plan on learning anything mechanical, but it's interesting to see what parts look like.

Jim - wouldn't you think your clutch is a bit much for this applicatio?

The RAM's a nice unit. Suggest you run a post and ask if anybody's getting "chatter" on theirs also. That was one of the issues that I ran into when studying which clutch to purchase. If you're willing to run another stocker, it looks like Great American has a very reasonable deal for you.

Sam there are two different versions of the RAM, Jim is running the heavier duty clutch, there is also an organic clutch which not only is a bit less expensive but also much easier on the leg. For a higher HP application I would recommend the 900 series like Jim is using, but for a bolt on car the Orgainc will be a huge improvement over stock

Sam good thought but we know the stock clutch is wimpy :browsmiley: and figure it's going to cost about $500.00 to install...so by upgrading he should be able to do this as a one and done.
Both of the units are very good quality time to shop and get your best deal

When I talked to RAM for the same use they recommended the 900 series, and warned that it could have a little chatter on the street (and some report it is smooth).

I held off on a clutch when I had my build done because I didn't want to get too silly with the clutch pedal or any chatter.

I tested Sam's clutch as we did our builds at the same time and REALLY liked the feel and engagement of the SPEC SS that he purchased. Had I been able to do a test before the build I would have added that to my package.

When my stock clutch eventually goes out, I plan to replace it with the SPEC SS.

LMAO! Couldn't help myself, guys. That kind of day yesterday...

Twixt us. I'm really glad the engine was pulled and they took care of the clutch. You can certainly get there, but I'd need more equipment than I have, would need to lean on my old man who's getting up there now, and Houston's gettin' downright toasty and moist all the same time. Ugh!
