Does anyone know where I can find my sales tax rate. Im trying to figure up how much I will have to pay on this car. I am buying it in Ohio and registering it in Alabama, so I have no idea as to how that will work. Any advice would be great.
Thats what i was hoping for. I have heard different amounts for our new vehicle sales tax rates in this state. Ive heard 2.5 and 3% but i dont know which if either is correct. I know its not our standard sales tax rate, because in my area that is like 8.5%I bought two cars in Ohio and registered them in a different state, and I did not pay tax to the dealer either time. I had to pay at the DMV when I registered them. It may be the same as the standard sales tax rate.
You'll want to check with Bob but I'm guessing it's the same for you. Bob will be collecting Michigan Sales tax from me and then I assume I get some sort of "proof of payment" of sales tax to bring to the state to show I paid. I'm guessing Bob's dealership in some fashion passes that along to Michigan.Bob Frederick said:The price will be at MSRP plus Temporary Registration/Title and Ohio Doc Fee(Which will total about $275.00). We will also collect Michigan Sales Tax.
I've bought trucks and cars out of state several times in several states and I've had them add my home state sales tax into the financing and they gave me a check for the tax and tempory reg. to get home then I registered and paid sales tax in my home town with their check.:bigthumb:425, I know you're going through Bob Frederick just like I am. I'm in a similar situation (I'm in Michigan, Bob Frederick is in Ohio). This is what he shared with me on one of my initial emails to him.

I cant let ya live with me, but i can give you an address so you can register your car lolI'm a canuck so can't be sure about the differences between states, but usually in canada or between canada and the US when you buy something *IF* the seller makes you pay the tax then when you get home and have to pay your own tax you can contact the tax agency in the state/province where you bought the item and prove you paid tax in your home province/state/country and you can get it back from them.
Its a pain and you're out money for a while but I think thats the worst case scenario. You normally would only pay tax where you live or finally register the vehicle.
and 425. 2%???????? thats SICK!!! its 10% here. can I come live with you? LOL
