Reading the thread about the sport mode software bug today, it was posted that the latest uconnect update, 17.11.07 is now downloadable from www.driveuconnect.com. Before this, it was only an over-the-air update, and you could only install it if it was offered from the cellular system.

When you go to the uconnect website, have your vin ready, and know which software version is currently on your car. (controls>settings>system information) I just took a picture with my phone. In my case, a 2015 sxt plus, auto, it said I had two updates available, since I already had the 1st installed, I just downloaded the 2nd, the 17.11.07 version.

I downloaded the update to my computer, it's a compressed file, with windows 10, just hit the extract button on the folder and specify where you want the files. Uconnect wants you to use a totally empty usb, 4 gigs minimum.

On the download page, there is a link to installation instructions, which is quite different from the over-the-air updates. I printed the instructions and took them, my ipad (for solitaire) and a snack out to the car. The download instruction specifically state to start the car, so I kept it running through the whole process. I followed them exactly, and it took just short of an hour. It might have taken less time, I used an old usb stick, if you use a usb 3.0 maybe it would go faster.
The update seems to work perfectly, the "birching betty" voice, sounds more like, "Sexy Betty", but my wife still calls it, "annoying". The "sport mode" button and menus seem to work fine. Now, since I have the latest update, I can update the navigation maps. Good luck!!!

Is this something I can do to my 2012? Would this fix the problem/issue we are having with having our sport mode being taken away from us?

No, this update is for the 8.4 inch screen uconnect radios. Which, for the Challenger, is on 2015 and up only. I've never heard of the pre-2015 mygig radios having a sport mode problem.....

As far as my car, 2015 sxt plus, auto, sport mode works fine with this new update.

And Hal did indeed induce that with this USB download, so it is apparently not a fixed version. A Guy

Why can't the problem be, sport mode is ALWAYS on and cannot be turned of? Having an 5.7 RT+ the 2 buttons I hit every time I start the car are traction control and sport mode (that is after I hit accept on the uconnect screen). I thought sport mode (at least on the RTs without STP) just bumped the throttle rate and if so, could it not be tuned with a diablo to be permanent?

#11 ·
Sport mode on non-STP R/Ts would modify the throttle response and the A8 shift programs (holds each gear longer before upshift). This was similar to the '14 and earlier R/Ts as well.

If you use the DiabloSport tuner, you can modify the throttle response, which has variable % rates. Don't know if there's part-throttle settings for A8 that can be modified.
The shift point settings in DS are generally for WOT operation and doesn't affect part throttle / light load cruise - unless they've changed that.

The issue may be - I've driven an A8 Scat Pack is the throttle is pretty touchy in Sport mode - so much, that in stop/go traffic (or slick roads) it's not the best choice. Driving on streets that are 25-30 mph in traffic with that isn't a great combination.
-for someone (spouse for example) isn't used to the car as much, there's a big difference in how much pedal travel in Normal vs. Sport.

If I'm in town driving (M6), I'd rather not have that much response. In more open areas, its great. The first part of the drive I put in Sport (in town), I have to adjust my approach since you get a roar of throttle taking off in first until I've acclimated to it.

I keep forgetting about the A8s. I have the M6 maggie and without sport mode it is too unresponsive for my taste but in the rain it does get squirrel. That is the only time I leave traction control on. The wife won't drive the car anymore with the barton shifter...says it is too much work...oh well, more seat time for me.

Did you contact Dodgecares about your issue and if so, does it look like they may have a resolution?

#13 ·
I did hear from them. Made a video demonstrating what is taking place - if I can get it to go through (its 22MB in lower res and compressed) via email is the challenger now.

Drove the car today - Sport Mode for Engine has no effect, even if you get the indicator "on" in screen.

Once you move to another screen or put Sport button on, it drops it as an indication. Steering and Traction control work as normally would.

my thoughts are - they created this problem. Why do I have to go through extraordinary steps...

Just fix the damn update!

Word of advice:

Do not accept the software downloads - the group at FCA keeps demonstrating that they don't test what they push out for software updates.

When you have a problem, you're pretty much on your own and you're going to have to do the work for them...

We now have a new example of Inept [insert picture of FCA software programmers]

Dammit. I found this thread AFTER I upgraded my 2015 SP manual to version 17. The process was sketchy too. I ran into all sorts of issues along the way but finally got the software to install. Does anyone know if turning off all the nannies works in version 17?

Updated 8.4 to new version today via thumb drive on a 2017 Challenger TA. Android Auto completely gone (error 8). Top usb port in center console constantly connects and disconnects over and over again. Called Uconnect they wanted me to do factory reset on radio, but had no clue how to do it. Attempted the temp up and down. All the combos of button pushes I could find and nothing. Took it to dealership. Basically pretty much screwed til after the new year.

If you hold the driver side up and down temperature buttons at the same time it will get you into a hidden engineering mode from which you can reset your radio to factory defaults. I have done this when the SRT splash screen would not stop showing up after I enabled and then disabled SRT mode with the Tazer. Your radio will reset and you will notice that on the first reload cycle the screen will look different...it takes about to on/off cycles before everything goes back to normal. This should be the same for 2015-2017.

So I went to my car to confirm the engineering screen has the factory reset option...turn the ignition to run and all of the sudden the update notification screen popped up....I was like SWEET! I hit yes update now. The screen then says attempt 1 of 2 and a progress bar pops up. There were instructions at the bottom saying 911 disabled and not to move the car and to leave the parking brake on. The bar went to 6% and then I though...oooo take a pic. Before I could the screen went blank and the radio restart. I hit the customary accept button and then this F'ing screen popped up (see image). I now notice that I get no bars on the Uconnect when I had 3 to begin with. I backed the car out of the garage thinking I need to be in the open to get a signal...nope that did not work. Seriously this is absolutely NUCKING FUTS!!!!! What the hell is with the 1 of 2 attempts, really? Just give me a download link and I will do it through USB...come on Uconnect get your Shite together!!

UPDATE:
Went back in the car and did a factory reset through the engineering screen. After a reset, one bar popped up and shortly after so did the update screen. Could just be a bad signal. Going to wait until tomorrow to try again. But if all they give are 2 attempts to update...that is BS! I will be sure to video tape the whole dam thing!

Wasn't holding top right corner of touch screen for 10 seconds how to reset the Panasonic head units?

Uconnect is ****. FCA should be embarrassed that anything with Uconnect is even used in a product they sell. I have had a Grand Cherokee and a Charger, both had Uconnect. Horrible customer service, horrible support. I learned to never update the head unit if it was working correctly. Everytime a update occurred, it was then followed by nothing but problems.

2016 Scat 6m HK sound group. Guess I got lucky, I did the update a few weeks back. It took forever to do, but it worked. I started the update with the car running, realized it was going to take forever, so I drove home (2 hour drive). Somewhere about half way home, it finished.

I pulled over, shut the car off, open and closed the driver door and restarted the car. First thing I noticed was the default sport mode on from Tazer finally worked. and still works

Could've sworn it was in my head, but the radio now sounds WAY better than it did before (after readjusting all the setting again.) I feel like there are much more mids and highs with the lows staying about the same. Which, to me, sounds great.

If any problems come up, I'll report back. Car isn't driven everyday right now though, so it may take some time.

Edit; I also unplug the Tazer before doing the updates. I do not put all the setting back to stock, but I do unplug the unit from the OBDII port.

what version do you have? If you go through the screens, you'll see "software version"

it will be 17.xx.xx

FCA should kill the 17.11.07 version - this is what hammered the Sport engine operation on '15 / '16 for the Harmon head units ['15-'16 Challengers]

Hi Andrea "Dodge Cares".

I may have previously asked this, apologies if I did, I do not have the best memory, but is there a way to delete or recall the update by VIN? I am just afraid that myself or my kid may hit the upgrade button by mistake. I am not fully embracing the upgrade, don't feel that I need it, don't want it and it is frustrating to see it pop up multiple times a day. It is intrusive and unwarranted. Please see what you can do about making it go away. I can PM you my VIN if it helps.

Thanks and Happy Holidays!!!

Hi ChallengerBoston,

Unfortunately there is not a way to stop the update prompt from popping up unless you choose to download it, I apologize for any inconvenience this causes.

Well, the patch is not installing OTA. Got in the car after work and no error when I turned the car on, but the software version is still the same. Drive home, pull in the driveway, then I go into settings and change the engine off setting to keep power on after shutdown for 10 minutes. I then shutoff the car and the update notification pops up. I yet again hit update now, the progress bar pops up and as soon as it hits 9% the screen goes black. This time I filmed the whole thing until the 10 min power setting kicked in and shut down the cluster, but the screen is blank the entire time. I get out of the car and get in my Jeep to pickup my daughter from school. When I get back (30 minutes elapsed) I turn on the car, no error but the version is still the same. I start the car, drive it in the garage, turn it off and the update notification pops up....again. This time I selected a time for the update to install but I got a feeling the result will be the same...this is insanity.

You'll have to have ignition in ON (engine can be off) and run it. After ~ 20 mins, the system will shut down the power (battery saver programming)...

Without opening the door, turn ignition back ON and you'll be able to keep to download running w/o interrupting the process.

If the system powers down and you open the door, it shuts everything off. The updates go through multiple screens and some blacked out ones and then it will pop up, show some % and then get blacked out screens and then the multiple passes (I had 16 steps).

Then, once it says you've successfully installed the update, then shut down.

You'll lose the "link with GPS" for the clock setting and the Speed adjusted volume settings - so you'll need to re-select those features.

Alright guys, I am going to try one more thing and that is to revert my PCM to the stock tune to see if that allows the patch to install. Although I thought all sport controls is the throttle boost level on the M6? If this does not fix it then I am going to have to wait for the next available USB update.
