I know a guy at a car show has a 1970 cornet 500 in B5 blue with the factory paint on it. And I have a 2009 B5 blue challenger looks very close to the 1970 B5 blue. I still wish they would have not came back with the B5 blue.At least its a little different body style

Personally I like the newer B5 Blue....thanks for posting.

I wasn't around when B5 in the 70 ' s was new. Now I know I prefer the newer version over the old.

For some better (I hope) comparison, I uploaded to screen shots of the paint ref site. The smaller window is of the colors from 70 (B3, B5, B7), 71 (B2, B5, B7), and 72 (B1, B3, B5).

First, I don't think the B5 was consistent between years. On that page, there are three totally different RGB codes, 70 B5 is #285EA6 , 71 and 72 are #33639B . The order code for 70 is different from the 71/72, while the 71 is the same as the 72.

To my eyes, the modern B5 (#3777BD) is the same color as the 70, but just....brighter? Maybe a touch lighter. Nowhere near the B7, but maybe/probably closer to the B3.

Strangely, and I know it's a trick of the eye because all the 2009 on up have the same RGB codes, the 15 looks much closer to the 70 than the 09/10.

Keep in mind, too, that's it is more of an 'inspired by' than a straight reproduction of the originals. Not just the color, but the whole car, too. It's a modern take on a classic :)

Not trying to be argumentative (I have a wife for that), just trying to give a somewhat closer comparison. I'd be happy with any B5, or '72 B3. They are definitely not 100% the same, but to my eye, the difference is negligible.

While I'm only (only?) 37, I feel like I have a similar feeling compared to the originals. 6 years ago, when I bought my Charger, I sat in the dealers cube, and right behind him was the B5 Challenger that I wanted. I barely took my eyes off it. Now I have the chance to actually get it, and I think that's got to be similar to the feeling the OG guys have when they think this is there chance to own that classic again.

I just get sick of people being so smug and argumentative saying that colors or whatever are the worst and shouldn't be called whatever they are called. If you don't like something, fine just say so but you certainly don't have to bash things like colors of cars that others might think are awesome! Go somewhere else and be smug!!!!

Just cause I thought the New B5 is a Ugly color and more like a B3
I guess you are Mr. Mopar calling a B3 a B5?
Too me Chrysler-Fiat is a BK company but no one wants to amittt it
Telling the folks that disagree that should go to another site?Maybe its best for yea to go somewhere else to be a J-Off...(by the way I love bashing colors}.............................JQ

The modern B5 blue (aka: Surf Blue) has pearl in it - it gives off a more silvery sheen in bright light.

The original B5 blue poly was a single stage metallic paint.

Here's shots of a '10 B5 - note how the sunlight "flares" and the shading in the contours of the body. The modern version gets color shift in bright light conditions due to the pearl finish.

All the colors now are developed to be 'modern interpretations of the originals'. I like them both.

I find it comical that with all the self-proclaimed "experts" in this thread only one mentioned that "B5" changed from EB5 in '70 to GB5 in '71. GB5 was darker than EB5. Both the '71 `Cuda and Challenger shown are/should be the darker GB5 anyway. Plus as some have said there were no pearl paints in '70...

I know I quoted it, but I'm no expert. I was born in '77 :)

What a joke. Everyone has their opinions, but there's no need to be a rude, pompous, a$$hole about it.

That being said, i really wish the Challenger was available in Viper Blue.
