The Roswell Public Library has made the Chilton Auto Repair Manual available online for free. Not sure if this something new or if it is common knowledge around here: my search didn't turn anything up: so here goes...

Follow this link:

https://www.roswell-nm.gov/1112/Chilton-Auto-Repair-Library

and follow the simple instructions once you reach the library's website.

Hoping this is of some help to the forum.

Once upon a time, getting a "shop manual" for any given car wasn't that much of a big deal. But these days, with everything online, subscription based and $$$$, most of us can't or won't spend the money to access the good stuff. So happy to have come across this link.

While growing up, my dad (God rest his soul), a WWII vet and one who prided himself in fixing things on his own, taught me the value of getting it done right by doing it yourself. For most of us, a quality service manual makes this much easier. Granted it's not the factory manual, but it's dead sure better than trying to "wing it."

I purchased the "factory" manual on DVD from the dealer, and it wasn't cheap. The thing does not have any wiring diagrams nor a parts breakdown in it, making it pretty much crap.

This is no longer working. If someone finds another access, let us know. If this is permanent, we will be removing this thread :(

P.S. I changed the address to copy and paste as it's possible the traffic all pointing back to Challengertalk may be why the Roswell site was changed. Just copy and paste the address to the url bar
The old link was working last week. Thanks for the update.

The link to the Roswell library no longer works for me...it does a location id and says to contact the library.I did a google search of "Chilton Automotive Library-Maine" and it pulled up a library in Portland,ME that has free access for anyone within the state. I think if anyone searches enough or contacts their local library, this will hold true for most states. Good luck!

This works:

http://elportalnm.org/

This link will take you to the New Mexico State Library page where you will find the Chilton link partway down on the right...see pic 1 below

Click on “ChiltonLibrary.com” and it will take you to an “Out-of-State Access” page....DO NOT USE YOUR OUT OF STATE INFO....use “Roswell” for city and “88203” for zip code...see pic 2 below

This works; just finished trying it on my iPad.

So I have had printed manuals for all my jeeps and they have way more detailed information than the stuff put out by techauthority. To get the CD to work with internet explorer you need to change compatibility mode to an earlier internet explorer, so annoying! Basically what you see on the on line Chilton manual site (minus the wiring diagrams) is what is in techautority. I wonder if the new USB versions they are putting out still need IE to work?

The USB version still says “Only Windows operating systems and Internet Explorer are supported.”

I emailed TA & asked why is IE needed because Windows 10 has been out for several years & does not come with Internet Explorer. How do I use the current Windows operating system if it doesn't have Internet Explorer?

They replied “Using any other browser software (Firefox, Google, etc.) may prevent Wiring Tab content and other data from being displayed properly. TechAuthority On-line has been certified to work with the default browser settings. Users may experience problems using custom browser settings. Please reference the Related Documents and Links at the bottom of the eStore home page for PC requirements.”

Somewhere I read there was a work around & you didn’t need to be connected to the Internet, but a browser was required. However I don’t recall if IE was needed. I’m trying to find where I saw that information.

I was hoping that the USB drive could just be plugged into my Chromebook which would make it handy.

Windows 10 has Internet Explorer, Edge is just the default. Try this

Or See this post at a Jeep forum

Apparently Haynes released a paperback manual earlier this year covering Challengers up to 2018 (non hell cat, demon and AWD). From the descriptions it contains wiring diagrams as well. Just a heads up for those that like printed manuals.

Thanks for this post. I just ordered one from Amazon yesterday. I am a fan of the printed books. I have been using my tablet in the garage for years now and have been waiting for a Chilton or Haynes to finally print one. Thanks again.
