Clutch delay valve delete

Has anyone done this to their Challenger and what kind of results did you have from what I read it's night and day on the smoothness of going from gear to gear just wondering what the down side would it be

To me the change was night and day, especially when running through the gears under hard acceleration. Before it felt like there was a slight delay in engagement/disengagement of the clutch and after a hard run I would always get that "burnt clutch" smell. With the delete the clutch feels more connected. Gear selection might have improved but clutch engagement was way more noticeable.

Only downside is your drivetrain sees more mechanical shock but I run a SC and I launch hard from 2nd gear which I have been doing for about a year now and nothing has broke yet. I even run a 1 piece prop shaft and a diff brace which really makes the touchy to clutch action. The upside is, you get less clutch slippage which increases its longevity.

I did this about 2 weeks ago.. It took roughly 15 minutes to complete, then pumped the clutch to bleed it roughly 250-300 times (reccomended is 200 but i was being safe). Directly after completing the process, there was a noticable difference, much crisper shift, no more 2nd gear nibble, etc..

The more I drove it, the better it felt. Now, the clutch works the way it should. No slushy, mushy clutch engagement, if you dump the clutch it wont slip. It drops the hammer and connects immediately... I wish I would have done it 6 months ago!!

If you are going SC just be prepared...hard launches in 1st gear is a joke, especially on stock tires. You really need to roll in the throttle and/or purposely slip the clutch. But for sustained/long burnouts I launch in 2nd.

BTW if you get the whipple installed don't be alarmed if it makes noise at idle with the AC on.

Have you read threw the clutch delay valve mod thread? For any M6 guy out there that drives seriously this mod should be the first thing on your list, followed closely by the Barton shifter. Those two mods combined will make any M6 Challenger feel exactly they way one would expect. By far the best two mods I’ve done to my car.

Good to hear on these mods since they are the first 2 I am doing to my 09 R/T I just bought. Shifter is on order and was thinking of crawling under the car this weekend. My only concern is how to make sure that the O-ring and Blue piece doesn't fall into the bell housing. Did you take any special precautions when romoving yours or am I worrying for nothing?

You shouldn’t need anything more than a shop rag over the opening to do the job. I didn’t bother and just went for it.

I performed the CDV removal Mod this morning then went for cruise and based on the results I thought I would give this thread another bump to give it more exposure. This sincerely makes such an improvement in how the transmission behalves. If you are a granny sifter you may not notice much of a difference but if you drive hard like I do you will notice a major difference.

Results:
When shifting fast and in the higher RPM range (5000-6800) I used to have issues with a slight grind from 1-2 then struggle to get it into third, sometimes it would be like hitting a wall and wouldn't even go into 3rd at all. Now it's a smooth shift all the way through to 4th... Already breaking 120 by 4th so usually just go right to 6th and slow it down, anyway... Also much easier on down shifts for passing etc... To be honest it's like a put a different trans in my car... I was kind of hater of the Tremec but now MAN!!!! I realize it's actually a nice trans.

It very well may be the most rewarding 15 min of work I have performed on a car.. I support DakBuidler on this being the first mod any M6 owner should perform. ... Kind of surprised the SRT engineers haven't made it a standard to remove this on the SRT line.

I like your handle! I say this because I just put a McLeod RXT clutch in my Shaker together with hybrid syncros in the TR-6060. I added the Barton and did the valve delete a long time ago. :grin2:

McCloud glad you did the mod. There is no I’d want to drive one of these cars manually without it. I had to replace a clutch last week and do the mod on my bench. Way easier than when the trans is already in the car. Either way it’s manageable. There really no exclude for any M6 guy not to do this mod. Glad you’re enjoying the true capabilities of the TR-6060. It’s truly an impressive trans.

I used a drywall screw to remove the bushing thingies. Screw it in until it bites then pull it out so I wouldn't have to worry about it falling in there if that's even a possibility. As far as performance I personally didn't notice a difference but I never felt any mush or slippage beforehand on my 2018 srt but still glad I did it.

Have to agree with what Gila mentioned. I've had all of the shifters made, Factory, to Hurst, to Barton. The Barton performs hands down the best for smooth efficient noise free shifting. With that said, I really enjoyed having to grab gears when I had the Hurst in. It gave the car that old school feeling. The Barton is beyond easy to shift. It's silky smooth, and works effortlessly.

Yup, all TR-6060s have this problem regardless of the make of car using them. You'll need to switch to a hybrid syncro in your transmission to fix this. There is a thread about it somewhere here.

I put in a new McCloud clutch a few months back and did the CDV delete and had to learn to drive the car all over again. Having the occasional grind 1-2 and sometimes 3-4-5 was a pain but learned to drive around it. For a little while when I took off a little heavy on the go fast pedal pretty much from 1-4 left reminders down the street of my passing. It's much better now but I still have to ease 1st as a blower on a 426 puts down a whole lot of ponies in a hurry. It's a good mod to do with almost no effort.

Sorry to bring such an old post again and I know the CDV has been talked about for ever in multiple threads, however I had to just ask my question and then be done with it. I have been driving manual cars for more than 50% of my eligible driving life and after having put some miles on me new '19 Scat pack WB I would be interested to know if anyone can confirm the CDV is still installed on the later model challengers?

As an example on my '19 challenger the skip shift is active when in default drive mode, however once in any other drive mode the skip shift is disabled so technically I dont required a skip shift eliminator. I was wondering if the same thought process could have been carried over to the CDV, as I have not noticed any weird behavior from the clutch that might indicate the CDV is still installed.

According to the chilton's service manual the CDV is still there on 2019 models. If you perform hard, fast accelerations (shifting just at redline) from 1st to 2nd (might be present from 2nd to 3rd as well..I don't remember) you will notice a slight slip when you release the clutch in 2nd gear as you hammer the throttle. On my 5.7 I always smelled a hint of burnt clutch on hard accelerations. Removed the CDV and the smell and slight slip went bye bye.
