Loudness: Corsa Xtreme vs Solo Performance

Hi all,

I couldn't find anything directly comparing these two so thought I'd start a new thread.

I have a 2015 RT Plus. I wanted to get a new exhaust to make it sound more muscle car-ish. I had been waiting for the 2015 Corsa Xtreme to come out, which now has, and the day I was planning on making the purchase I came across the Solo Mach X. The Solo is nearly half the price of the Corsa and the tone seems nice and deep from the few videos I've been able to find of 2015's with Solos. I haven't found many videos from any year that capture decent sound quality of the Solo unfortunately.

My question is, do any of you know how much louder the Solo is likely to be at idle and at WOT versus the Corsa or stock? I'm not necessarily looking for loudness in my exhaust, more tone than anything. If it's a little louder than stock I've got no issue there. I just don't want it to be overwhelmingly loud or annoying to my neighbors or wife for that matter, LOL. Everything I've read says the Corsa Xtreme purrs at idle and cruising but unleashes a beast at WOT. Basically it's controllable.

I've heard the Solo promises no drone, which that's Corsa's big staple anyway. I really like the sound of both, even though they're very different tones. So I'm trying to really base it on difference in loudness itself. Maybe I'm going about the whole thing wrong though.

I want to get one ordered this week, but I'm just not sure which way to go. If the Solo is going to be really loud then I'll def just go with the Corsa. But if I can get that deeper tone without being overwhelmingly loud, I'm going Solo.

UPDATE: Ordered the Solo for my 2015 RT and should arrive today.

However, I got quite a surprise this morning. I called my local muffler shop (a very well respected and known shop) and they were very reluctant to even take the job on. They advised that based on their past experience with Solo that the product wasn't made well, fit very poorly, and a lot of movement under heat. Honestly, I was completely shocked as I was unable to find many negatives about Solo in my few weeks of research prior to ordering. Most everyone seemed to give it praise - especially Challenger folks.

Now I'm kind of nervous about the whole thing which sucks as this should be something to be excited about.

Just curious if anyone has heard of anything like this before? I'm having it installed later this week so hopefully it goes off without a hitch.

UPDATE: Solo exhaust installed this morning.

So I got the exhaust installed this morning. There was some work that had to be done on the fit. On one side the brackets did not line up right so there was some re-work/welding that had to be done. On the other side, the exhaust was very tight against the under-frame (for lack of a better word). They adjusted the best they could but its really tight there. The ABS line was laying on the pipe so that was tie-wrapped out of the way.

Other than that, I did go with some custom tips. I LOVE these things, they look awesome. The shop sells all varieties of custom tips they make, but I thought these looked the best.

Overall sounds really tough, sounds like a muscle car now and the tips are the cherry on top. Really wish the fit didn't have the issues we did, but I'm glad I went to a competent shop that can fabricate things on the spot. Will try and grab some video this weekend.

BTW, that is a Hellcat in the background in the second photo. It belongs to the owner of the shop. Cool stuff.

Whatcha think? :grin2:

I would be surprised if the Solo were louder than the Corsa Xtreme. I had the Solo and loved it, loud (but not excessively so) when you want it to be, quiet when you don't. No drone. I also ran shorty headers with it, so the stock 5.7 manifolds should be quieter still.

The biggest difference I am aware of is the Solo has a packing material in the muffler, over time the sound level and tone may change. The Corsa uses tuned chamber mufflers, a slight change of sound due to carbon buildup may occur.
Also, Corsa uses a better grade of stainless, no browning over time.

Yeah, the Solo Mach-X mufflers are packed with stainless steel wool and ceramic fiber. Different sound compared to the Corsa for sure.

Incorrect, both use 304 stainless.

According to Steve Mariano at Solo, the mufflers are 304, however, the pipes are 409.
Hmmm, it's possible. Hard to find hard specs on Solo other than the mufflers AND tips being 304 stainless, though doing some more digging I found that their Challenger V6 system does say 409 tubing. If that's the case for all their systems then that could why the Solo system is such a deal at under $1000.

In any event, if the Solo pipes really are 409 then that wouldn't bother me. They're out of sight so a color change would be unnoticed, at least by me. :)

I know it's very subjective, but what made you like the sound of Corsa Xtreme at WOT versus the Solo? Since you've owned both you're an interesting case to my situation, LOL.

I greatly appreciate the replies from everyone. Certainly some good information. I'm still kind of apprehensive about it because I was pretty set on Corsa up until a few days ago, but I think I'm gonna try the Solo out. Figure if I don't like the Solo's I can always sell them and move on to Corsa : )

I have the Solo on my 2013 R/T its plenty loud but no complaints from the neighbors. I am in a large car club and I get frequent compliments on the tone and volume. You can make a Solo catback roar when you want to. You made a good choice and you'll be happy.

Thank you. I honestly couldn't find much of anything in my search either. I'm definitely going to inquire more about it on Friday during my install. Would love to get more details so I could pass it on to Solo and maybe they can speak with the shop to address the things they mentioned. Very strange.

Thanks for the follow up!

I'm surprised to hear the comments the muffler shop made. I've had 2 Solo exhausts. One on my Solstice and one on the SRT. Now, they were both installed at one of the places Solo owns. So it was their guys doing the install, but I never had a problem with fit, or rattling or anything like that. The SRT exhaust still looked good after 20k miles and worked fine. Resold it to a member here who seemed to be very happy with it. I can't help but wonder if there was a mis-communication on the exact model or year that caused your guys to have to fabricate something to get it installed. My Magnaflow has not fit as well right from the start and is rattling like hell 6 months later. Driving me crazy.

The tips look good. I'm a fan of the round tips myself. I have the Magnflow rounds now. Very close in appearance to the Solo's, but I would have to give the nod to the Solo's.

I definitely love the tips : )

As far as fit, unless Solo packaged the wrong item, it is what it is. The packing slip and receipt match up with what I wanted (2015 RT). For the money, I'm happy. I have heard of some brackets not lining up on that one side from a couple of others on the forum. But not a huge deal. Again, for the money spent, I'm happy.
