My Challenger got destroyed

12/28 I was driving to work. I was in the left lane and a landscaping truck towing a tree chipper was in the right lane. He proceeded without signaling to cut over to my lane. I immediately downshifted and jammed on my brakes, skidded and smashed into another landscaping trucks chipper that was parked illegally. My car was completely destroyed both air bags went off the winshield cracked and the sumbitch that cut me off kept in going. Anyway I just got the check last night from the insurance company and Im going tomorrow to look at another hemi 6spd Challenger.

That is a wicked hit - Glad you are OK. Don't feel bad I destroyed my wife's first TA with the plastic still on the rear floor mats (another story). What is interesting that is an off-set crash which is really one of the worst to have (I'm not an engineer). Mine was similar but I had to be pulled out of the broken sunroof. Point is these models are old yes, but are built on a Mercedes frame. The more I see these type of accidents (Charger & Challenger) I am concerned about the safety of the next generation of these models. I will be upgrading my RT+ to a 392 shortly before the models change - Dodge/FCA I hope you are reviewing these hits.

Sux the car is toast, but good you made it thru without serious harm.

It strikes me as odd that there would be two wood chippers involved here. I mean, I can go weeks without ever seeing even one, yet you were cut off by one and forced into yet another one.🤔

Just spitballing here, but would you happen to currently be getting ready to testify in court against someone? Someone with a last name that ends in a vowel? Someone that...well, you know what, I’ll stop with questions and leave you with this to ponder: perhaps this was no “accident.” 😬

Perhaps someone very powerful is trying to send you a message about your upcoming testimony. Perhaps you should go on vacation until the trial is over...just saying 😵

Pretty crowded where I live & the neighborhood is mostly Italian...hmmmmm.

Sorry to see that happen, but Happy to hear that you're alright! That's what counts because you can find another Challenger. The engineering in these cars is pretty Incredible and it's not realized it until I see a picture like yours.

You could've used your cellphone to take a picture instead of trying to catch them right after getting into such a bad accident. Did the trucks have any business logos on them that you can remember? Just a thought to try and help.

Once again, Sorry for your loss, but Glad that you're alright!
No I had the gas station on the corner send me the footage, no logo's no nothing.

Daymn, that sucks, glad you are OK. Maybe ask around if there are any businesses that might have had video of it? Or post online somewhere (Facebook?)

Cool, was the insurance amount acceptable? (don't need the amount, just your opinion)
Yep, car was a 2010 in MINT condition 18,500 miles.

The passenger compartment is relatively intact. I'd say the car did its job fairly well.

Wow, so sorry to see that. It's de-ja-vu from what happened to me a couple of years ago (on 12/30):

Some loser pulled right out in front of me, and I "almost" missed him. I had the car 28 days when this happened; it still had the temp tags on it. Interestingly, no bags deployed, no glass broke, the fenders didn't get into the doors, no damage to cooling or A/C (the liquid on the ground is washer fluid), and it drove out just fine once I pulled the fender liner off the right front wheel. But, they totaled the car anyway. It was a '10 with 14K miles, so the age worked against me.

But, because it was clearly his fault (two tickets), and I initially bought the car so right, their insurance company paid me more for the car than I paid the dealer. Enough more, in fact, that I was able to get my '14 with <9K miles for about even money.

I was physically sick for two days after the wreck, but after I was able to get my mind around it, I came out better in the long run. Just appreciate that you didn't get hurt, and your car did it's job. All you can do is go find another one and enjoy it as well. Again, sorry for your loss.

Cheaper to total then repair I guess. I was physically sick as well. A bit gun-shy to get behind the wheel too. I thought my back got effed up but I slept on my back on a hard cot for two nights with a heating pad. The pain went away (thank GOD) b/c my health ins is a joke. I tested out the back by hitting 50 golf balls two days in a row and no pain!!

I'm Sorry to hear that! Did the video get a license plate number?

If so, then I'd think that you could take the video to the Police and let them run the plate or show it to your insurance company and let them take care of it. I'm sure that they'd like to get their money back, if they could.

Just my thoughts.

I got a 1-2 punch from both airbags. The passenger airbag got me good. Had a sprained neck and pulled a muscle under my right shoulder blade. Due to my crap health ins I didnt go to the hospital. Luckily a heating pad and 2 nights of sleeping on a very hard cot fixed me. I tested my back out by hitting 50 golf balls at the range, all good.

Even while this happened a car can be replaced just be glad that your ok and you will soon have another Challenger...
Going to look at a 2010 R/T 6spd tomorrow am.

I didn't need a camera when that ass-hat killed mine. He wasn't going ANYWHERE after that hit. He was driving a POS mid-90's front wheel drive Buick, and it ended up in the grass. I drove mine home; he did not. And, there were a bunch of people waiting to get into a restaurant right in front of where it happened, and saw the whole thing. They were literally lined up by the police car to tell them what happened when the cops arrived, lol.

The d-bag got two tickets, and his insurance company paid up quickly. I told them I may have neck/back/spine issues, just to grease the skids. I hope that guy got dropped like a bad habit by his insurance company.

Best of luck in finding your replacement. There are lots of them out there, and the right one is waiting. Keep positive!

I am really glad you're ok and although it's the last thing you'd even think of, any crash you can walk away from isn't so bad. Your situation reminds me of where I live. We're having quite a bit of road development around here. There are dump trucks everywhere slinging mud and dirt all over the roads. Then we have the morons who drive around here with their heads up their 4th point of contact. I didn't ever think the State of North Carolina would give driver's licenses to these people. I have to be on my game no matter what I drive so as to keep others from causing damage.

JD, we have those same idiot drivers around here as well. They'll pull out in front of you at the last freakin' minute or change lanes in front of you with less than a car length between them and you, and they don't even use their turn signals. It's tough not to go ballistic sometimes!
