I am new here and am looking for helpful information for the purchase consideration of a 2020 / 2021 Challenger R/T 5.7 L with manual transmission. I don't know if I want to get the shaker hood package or not.

I like the look and it is more unique in looks of course. It kind of reminds me of my 1976 Pontiac Trans Am 455. It did not have an active air intake flap but it did make the car look special. I eventually changed carbs, added a 2" intake spacer and had a velocity stack air cleaner sticking up through the hole instead. Long time ago ...

... Anyway, do any of you have an opinion about the shaker hood ??
... I read a review that mentioned some overheating issues with city driving, or drive thru stops.

... If you have one, would you do it again?
... If you don't have one, do you wish you did?

I have it, I love it. The main reason I got a Challenger over a Charger. I had a 2015 Charger and absolutely loved it, but wanted to step up to a 392, so when looking again, for kicks I included Challengers in my searches, then the SHAKER sucked me in, literally.
Only downside is the expense, they are an expensive option for no shown or claimed performance increase.
Well, another slight downside is that it is a bit more involved putting oil in the engine, but literally 1 minute of your time. You remove the SHAKER top, and then you get the the Oil Fill openings. But if you get the super cool SHAKER tool, all the more swagability included.

I made some posts a year or so ago about mine for kicks.

I'm a first time Mopar buyer and just ordered an R/T 5.7 shaker in manual transmission. No experience with the questions you asked since I am a brand new owner but the car does look VERY nice, at least to me. And the shaker option helps the motor breathe better and that's always a good thing. There's supposed to be a modest boost in HP due to this.

I think I would regret buying a different configuration.

From my extensive research it does seem that these hemis don't like heat much. Problems idling in traffic are suspected to be the source of various issues that start cropping up as the motor nears the 100k miles mark. One of the key reasons I went for a manual transmission and non-MDS motor was due to these problems.

I think you are going to LOVE your Shaker if you buy one.

First, Welcome to ChallengerTalk from Alabama! I can't give you subjective feedback because my 21` WB Scat Shaker hasn't arrived yet. Supposed to be at the dealer this week (I hope). However I can tell you I ordered it because these are muscle cars and I wanted the most badass, in your face car I could afford. The shaker hood to me really increases the "menacing" look. As far as practicality, as it says above, a little more "hassle factor" adding oil to the engine but I have heard from other shaker owners that it's really not that bad. Also, you do have to keep the gasket around the base of the shaker cleaned and treated like all rubber/plastic parts but again, not a big deal to me. As stated above, probably the hardest thing to justify is the cost but if you are spending 50k on a car, why not get what you really want rather than always wishing that you had. Just my .02$.

I wanted the shaker. It looks soooo bad ass. But after reading about issues with it in earlier models. I decided against it. Water leakage when it rains. Paint rubbing off on underside of hood. Oil adding needs 4 nuts removed. Small stuff except for the water issue. I never planned to drive mine in the rain but sometimes you get stuck. I also don’t know how old the vehicles were that had water leakage issues

To answer 3 of your 4 questions:

1. Yes, I wouldn't have any other Challenger that isn't a Shaker.
2. No overheating issues whatsoever.
3. I covered this in 1.

There is no concern at all with the Shaker option.........unless you don't like the coolest, head turning feature of the Shaker. Behind the wheel it gives you instant satisfaction that you are driving a Challenger.

I love my Shaker. It was the #1 option I wanted while shopping for my car. If a car had every option besides the Shaker, I would pass on it. I daily drive my car in both city & hwy & there is absolutely no heating issues whatsoever. I love the look. It’s a throwback and makes the car stand out and gives it a unique look. If and when i get another Challenger. It will have a Shaker as well

Like nightwing said, the shaker was the the #1 option I checked off when ordering.
Its $2,400 worth of super cool! And like another guy said, when you spend 50K you better get what you want and settle for nothing less

Traded my C6 corvette convertible for this 2019 automatic 5.7L and never regretted it.
Now have over 20,000 miles with no issues.
Got the Shaker Challenger because it’s very retro looking and you do not see a lot of them around.
Lots of compliments and thumbs up wherever I go.
To me it was worth the extra cost.

When the Shaker option came out in2014, I wanted one, but didn't want to start another round of car payments. So I ordered the parts and converted my 2012 R/T Classic Challenger to a Shaker. Satisfied the Shaker itch for a couple of years, then I bought my current Challenger, a 2016 Shaker. I enjoy it every time I drive it, when I replace this one, it will probably be another Shaker.

Welcome and congrats. I believe this is my 1000th post and what a perfect way since 95% of these posts were about Shakers. I'm on my 6th Challenger and I absolutely have an opinion.
I Love the looks and it is a nice separation from all the SXT's driving around. No performance gains (still don't know why) but the looks do it for me. Is high priced but is the first opinion box I check.
Both of my Shakers are/were daily drivers with many NC hot summers and many drive thru stops with no over-heating, except by the servers.
Would I do it again, yes and I did and my next one will be a Shaker too.
Only reason my first 3 weren't Shakers is they weren't out then. When they were available I got the 40th one ever made. My 5th wasn't because I went cheap planning on C8, once that car disappointed me I went right out and got another Shaker.

Yours is an exceptionally nice Challenger, willing to say best I've ever seen.

I was concerned about the scoop drain possibly draining onto the alternator on my 2012 Challenger, but when I looked closer I realized that would not be a problem. It appears that the scoop base would drain onto the alternator, but actually those drains are for any water that enters the scoop openings. Given the placement of the openings, very little water would get inside the scoop. The scoop has one drain that is right at the front in the center to drain any water that runs down from the exterior of the scoop. This drain might, under the right conditions, drain onto the serpentine belt. In six years of daily driving a Shaker, I have never had any problems from water getting into the engine compartment.

Get it. Like others have pointed out there are no real draw backs except detailing around the Shaker vinyl stripes. My next Challenger will more than likely be a Shaker. I love it!

Yes, mine has only the Bumblebee rear stripe.

I had to have the shaker! Seems like you have a part of the engine sticking out, feels so "hot rod" and you get to see it twist and turn when you hit the gas. For the money its minimal in any performance gain, but for the style and feel it is like no other. Looking at that lump in front of you adds a sense of power supreme. I knew the wallet was going to take a hit but it was well worth it in my opinion. I got the car in August2020 and it rains here and there in Oahu, Hawaii but I have had no problems with water at all. I hardly see shakers here too, I've only seen about 3 total so far. I finally put shaker footage together and made a video of my shaker.

What did you do to add the lights? Led strips or something?
