Updated 8.4 to new version today via thumb drive on a 2017 Challenger TA. Android Auto completely gone (error 8). Top usb port in center console constantly connects and disconnects over and over again. Called Uconnect they wanted me to do factory reset on radio, but had no clue how to do it. Attempted the temp up and down. All the combos of button pushes I could find and nothing. Took it to dealership. Basically pretty much screwed til after the new year.

On the 17's, Getting to the factory reset should be just going into settings and the third from the bottom is listed as "restore settings" Click that and a popup states "are you sure you want to reset your settings to default"

If you hold the driver side up and down temperature buttons at the same time it will get you into a hidden engineering mode from which you can reset your radio to factory defaults. I have done this when the SRT splash screen would not stop showing up after I enabled and then disabled SRT mode with the Tazer. Your radio will reset and you will notice that on the first reload cycle the screen will look different...it takes about to on/off cycles before everything goes back to normal. This should be the same for 2015-2017.

Did that and it had no effect still does the same thing. Wish I could revert to previous data

So I went to my car to confirm the engineering screen has the factory reset option...turn the ignition to run and all of the sudden the update notification screen popped up....I was like SWEET! I hit yes update now. The screen then says attempt 1 of 2 and a progress bar pops up. There were instructions at the bottom saying 911 disabled and not to move the car and to leave the parking brake on. The bar went to 6% and then I though...oooo take a pic. Before I could the screen went blank and the radio restart. I hit the customary accept button and then this F'ing screen popped up (see image). I now notice that I get no bars on the Uconnect when I had 3 to begin with. I backed the car out of the garage thinking I need to be in the open to get a signal...nope that did not work. Seriously this is absolutely NUCKING FUTS!!!!! What the hell is with the 1 of 2 attempts, really? Just give me a download link and I will do it through USB...come on Uconnect get your Shite together!!

UPDATE:
Went back in the car and did a factory reset through the engineering screen. After a reset, one bar popped up and shortly after so did the update screen. Could just be a bad signal. Going to wait until tomorrow to try again. But if all they give are 2 attempts to update...that is BS! I will be sure to video tape the whole dam thing!

Tried that button combo absolutely nothing happens.
hope this helps

1. Verify the radio software version. Radio must be in Dealer Mode to verify by following these steps: a. Push and hold the Front Defrost, Driver Temperature Up and Temperature Down buttons simultaneously until the Dealer Mode screen appears (approximately seven seconds). Release buttons.

Hi rcinsolo,

Sorry to hear about this! In post #21 @forcedfedbug explains how to do a hard reset of your Uconnect system, if this doesn't help and/or if you vehicle is still at the dealership please send us a PM with your VIN for further assistance.

Thanks Andrea, I responded. I will let you know how the install goes tonight as the factory reset seems to have everything working. To be safe I removed any SD/USB devices from the ports as well. Hope attempt 2 goes well.

PM sent and I did restore the radio using those steps. Still continuing issues.

Always remove USB sticks or SD cards (prior to '17) - otherwise the updates won't process properly as the system will see an 'unrecognized' device and interrupt the process.

Uconnect is ****. FCA should be embarrassed that anything with Uconnect is even used in a product they sell. I have had a Grand Cherokee and a Charger, both had Uconnect. Horrible customer service, horrible support. I learned to never update the head unit if it was working correctly. Everytime a update occurred, it was then followed by nothing but problems.

So I went home for lunch and decided to bring the car (no SD or USB inserted). Did not see the update screen until after I parked. Screen said car had to be off and the parking brake on. So I did that and hit update. Progress bar showed up and after 9% screen went blank. I waited 5 minutes and turn ignition on and it said update failed. How long is the update suppose to take?

Generally 35 minutes from my experience then you can shut down

2016 Scat 6m HK sound group. Guess I got lucky, I did the update a few weeks back. It took forever to do, but it worked. I started the update with the car running, realized it was going to take forever, so I drove home (2 hour drive). Somewhere about half way home, it finished.

I pulled over, shut the car off, open and closed the driver door and restarted the car. First thing I noticed was the default sport mode on from Tazer finally worked. and still works

Could've sworn it was in my head, but the radio now sounds WAY better than it did before (after readjusting all the setting again.) I feel like there are much more mids and highs with the lows staying about the same. Which, to me, sounds great.

If any problems come up, I'll report back. Car isn't driven everyday right now though, so it may take some time.

Edit; I also unplug the Tazer before doing the updates. I do not put all the setting back to stock, but I do unplug the unit from the OBDII port.
