Spoke to my agent today w/regard to insurance. I've been with Safeco for several years and I pay $1,000.00 per year on my R/T. The Hellcat will add $1,200.00. 120% increase + addition fuel costs. It's still on the table, but will have to think about it a bit longer.

Really? I'd call GEICO. I pay about $1,000 a year for my "TWO" R/Ts. You have the "we don't want to insure it price."

You really cannot compare one persons insurance rate to another. Anymore there are way too many factors that they use to compare

Credit score, driving record, location, # of vehicles and properties, age, gender...

That does seem excessive though. I'd look at a few other insurance companies.

Years and years ago we went from Farmers to Progressive and saved money.. then years later we switched back to Farmers because Farmers was then cheaper than Progressive. We are now with Allstate.

Yeah, I'd shop around for other quotes. For it to be a 120% markup seems excessive. I bet you can find something more reasonable elsewhere.

I had to have a rider put on my policy that my 19yr old son (who lives with me) would never drive the SRT8, that he has his own car, and his own insurance policy.

NOTE: I cannot put him on my policy even if I wanted to...my company is for people 50yrs old or greater.

Sad, but the 16\25 male age demographic is the worst place to be. Highest risk.

With two tickets, in my province of Ontario, Canada, your son would be paying between 600 and 800 per month if on his own policy. We also have a graduated license policy here, cant drive on freeways, at night, or without a licensed driver beside you (to start)...and NO alcohol WHATSOVER. Forget legal BAC limits, get caught with ANY reading and youre done.

Lot of factors contribute to cost of premium. Age, driving record, credit score, where you live, who typically buys the car being insured(goes to calculate number of claims a certain model of car may have).
I pay approx $800 a yr for my 2011 SRT. Full coverage, $100 ded collision, 0 ded comp. The rates for my wifes 2010 Mustang V6 is the same. We both have no accident or violations. The reason for the higher rate than expected on the stang is its an entry level car and typically owned by less experienced drivers(meaning the car experiences more loss for the insurance co than my SRT).
I did check w/my agent for a quote on a Hellcat, it would add about $200.

I have Geico and for an R/T and my wife's Dart we pay almost $2,000 a year with several discounts. But I have no deductibles and a $1 million limits for personal injury and property. I always do $0 deductible because living in the middle of nowhere constantly driving on dirt roads I usually have to replace windshield at least once a year. Luckily last year, knock on glass save my ass, I didn't have to on either my wife's Dart or my old VW Routan

My new 2015 SRT 392 is only $70.00 more per year than our 2012 Chrysler 300...

I WAS paying about $1300.00 a year for our Challenger until this past July when I switched all our vehicles to a different company. We only drove it for pleasure driving but still - had to insure it like any other vehicle. Checked with Hagerty - they said they would insure it - $1100.00 a year with limitations & I could not cancel any coverage when it is parked for winter from Nov.-April, so we stuck with our old company which took off driving insurance when the car was parked for the winter. We are in MI., so car insurance is super high because there is no limit on medical payouts in case of an accident that cripples you for life. I found another company that not only covered collector vehicles, but everyday drivers as well. I switched EVERYTHING over to them (7 vehicles - 2 of them are not driving) & I'm saving over $3,000 a year. The Challenger went from $1300 to $276.00 for full coverage & no deductibles at all. Also stated value of $32,000. Pleasure driving only.

Couple years ago, I had shopped around with other companies for cheaper rates for my Ram truck - we were around $1300 on that too. Here's what other companies quoted:

  • Lizard Insurance (Geiko) was only $2700.00
  • Progressive was $2700.00
  • AAA was $1700.000
  • Allstate was $2300.00
Now for my Ram, I'm paying $799.00 - IN MICHIGAN!
